Lumberman
The Lumberman
was a three-masted schooner of 128 feet in length. On Apr. 7, 1893, the
ship left it's winter port of Chicago for Kewaunee, WI for a load of
lumber. A storm blew out of the west while it was off of Oak Creek,
WI. The schooner was too high in the water because of the empty load and
capsized.
Today, she lies in 65 feet of water intact. The
deck sits at about 50 feet. The cargo hulls are empty and are an easy swim
through from one hold to the next under the decking.
